What should I bring to my surf lesson?We suggest bringing a towel, sunscreen, water and snacks, and most importantly, a positive attitude :)

What is the best beach for first-time surfers?We recommend Ocean Beach, located off the 8 West Interstate, for your first surf lesson. This beach is known for having smaller and smoother waves compared to many other beaches in San Diego County, which can be ideal for beginners.

How long are the surf lessons?Absolutely! The surf school includes photo opportunities at the beginning and end of every lesson. The photos may be taken by a professional photographer, the surf school staff, or a designated camera set up on the beach or in the water. These photos can be a great way to capture your surfing experience and progress, and they are often taken for safety and instructional purposes. If you have any concerns about having your photo taken, please let the surf school know beforehand so they can make appropriate arrangements. After the lesson, you'll be able to access the photos through an online gallery or download link.

What is the duration of the surf lessons?Our group and semi-group lessons last for 90 minutes, while private classes typically run for 60 minutes. If you need a longer lesson time, we may be able to accommodate your request with advanced notice.

What is your cancellation policy?Our cancellation and rescheduling policy requires a notice of 48 hours prior to your scheduled start time. We understand that travel plans can change, and we do our best to accommodate everyone based on availability.

Can I bring my own wetsuit?Yes, of course you are allowed to bring your own wetsuit for the surf lesson. However, it's important to confirm with the surf school or instructor beforehand to ensure that their equipment and safety standards can be met with your wetsuit. If you're unsure about the wetsuit requirements for the lesson, it's best to ask the instructor or surf school before the lesson to avoid any complications on the day of the lesson.

Can I leave a gratuity?If you've had an enjoyable lesson, gratuities are always appreciated and can be given directly to your instructor.

What if there are no waves during my surf lesson?n case there are no waves during your surf lesson, the surf school may suggest rescheduling your lesson to a different time. It's worth bearing in mind that surfing is a sport that relies on natural conditions, and there is always a chance that the waves may not be suitable for the lesson. If this happens, your instructor will make every effort to utilize the time effectively and provide you with a valuable learning experience.

Practice your swimming: Even though you'll be wearing a wetsuit and using a surfboard, it's important to be a confident swimmer since you'll be spending time in the water. Dress appropriately: Wear your swimsuit underneath your clothes to make changing into your wetsuit easier. Don't forget to bring a towel and sunscreen. Stay hydrated: Bring water and snacks to keep you energized during your lesson. Where is the surf lesson location?The location of the surf lesson will vary depending on your experience level and the current wave conditions. We have a variety of spots available for lessons, but typically we coach between La Jolla Shores and Point Loma.

Is it possible to secure my valuables during the surf lesson?Your instructor may offer the option to lock your personal belongings inside their vehicle while you're in the water. This can be a convenient and secure way to store your items during the lesson. However, it's important to confirm with your instructor beforehand and take necessary precautions with your valuable items.

Is it okay to take a surf lesson if I don't know how to swim?t's highly recommended that you have basic swimming skills before attempting to learn how to surf. While you don't need to be an expert swimmer, you should be comfortable in the water and able to tread water for a short period of time. Can I bring my own surfboard to the lesson?Of course, you're welcome to bring your own surfboard to the lesson. However, we highly recommend that you use our equipment for the lesson. Our boards are specifically designed for beginners and are more stable and easier to handle in the water. Additionally, our instructors are more familiar with our equipment and can provide better guidance and instruction if you use our boards. But if you have a specific reason to use your own board, please let us know ahead of time and we can discuss it further.

What is the age requirement for surf lessons?We generally recommend that surfers be at least 7 years old, but we can accommodate younger surfers on a case-by-case basis. We only offer private lessons for children under 7 years old without a chaperone.

Do I need to have any prior surfing experience before taking a lesson?Not at all! Our surf lessons are designed for beginners with little to no prior experience. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the basics of surfing, including proper technique, safety, and etiquette in the water. We'll also provide you with all the necessary equipment, including a surfboard, leash, and wetsuit if needed. All you need is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn! Is there a weight limit for participants in surf lessons?While we don't have a strict weight limit for our surf lessons, our standard surfboards are designed to comfortably support riders up to 300 pounds (136 kilograms) before additional flotation is needed. If you exceed this weight limit or have concerns about your ability to balance on a standard board, we also offer paddle board lessons that may be more suitable for you. Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our participants, so if you have any questions or concerns about the equipment or your ability to participate, please don't hesitate to let us know.
